Casa del Sonador, “House of the Dreamer”, is a private villa completed in 2007 overlooking Costa Rica’s awe-inspiring southern Pacific Coast. Designed to provide you with an intimate setting for the ultimate in tropical vacations, you may relax and unwind at your own pace while enjoying the rainforest-meets-the-ocean vista surrounding you. Our villa includes two ocean-view homes, lush rainforest landscaping, a tropical rancho, terraces and a pool with swim up bar and infinity edge. Each of the villa’s homes has two air-conditioned master suites with private baths, including walk-in showers. All suites contain a pillow-top queen size bed with luxury linens. On the second floor, you may avail yourself of the fully equipped private kitchen and dine on the large, covered balcony while watching the fishing boats in the little harbor of Punta Dominical.
Casa del Sonador is located on Costa Rica’s south Pacific Coast, nestled in the hills of Escaleras above the little fishing village of Dominical.
Unique Setting. Our hillside, Escaleras, is one of the few places where the mountains and the rainforest extend all the way to the coast. This gave us the opportunity to build Casa del Sonador, our rainforest Villa, in a location that also had wonderful views of the magnificent Pacific Coast. Where else can you enjoy the sounds of monkeys, toucans and pounding surf at the same time? From your balcony, you will see flocks of parrots overhead while you watch the little fishing boats leave the harbor and fish along the 20 miles of coastline up to Manuel Antonio.
Your Total Relaxation And Enjoyment Is Our Goal. In designing Casa del Sonador, we have taken the best features from all our favorite vacation places. The two master suites of each home have been comfortably appointed with queen-sized beds, reading lamps and private baths with walk-in showers. The living room has comfortable furniture and a television with DVD player. The kitchen is fully equipped including a microwave, blender and the dishes you’ll need if you decide to eat in. The balcony and terraces are where folks tend to spend their time in Costa Rica, so we designed them to be generous in size and comfortable. The balcony of each home includes an outdoor eating area that overlooks the harbor, a sofa for lounging while reading a book, and cushioned chairs to sit in while just gazing out at the breathtaking sunsets over the Pacific.
To make your mornings/afternoons/evenings at the pool comfortable (since the temperature rarely varies from the 80’s, anytime is pool time), the terrace area surrounding the pool includes two tables, eight chairs and four chaise lounges. For those of us who can’t spend all day in the sun, we have built a covered Rancho that is equipped with a sink, refrigerator and overhead fan for the rare occasions when our near constant tropical breeze abandons us. Since we found that we often did not want to leave the pool to enjoy a snack or beverage, we designed the pool with a table and underwater bar stools for just those occasions. And so that time in the pool would not mean sacrificing the incredible views from the villa, the pool is designed with an infinity edge, which affords an ocean vantage point. Trust us, even if you haven’t been much of a pool person in the past, you will spend hours in the perfectly warmed-by-the-tropics water.
For those occasions when you can’t pull yourself away from Casa del Sonador for grocery shopping, we have pre-stocked an assortment of beverages and snacks for your convenience (wine, beer, soft drinks, chips and cookies).
Tropical Paradise. First, this is one of the few places in the world where the mountain ridges and rainforest come down to meet the ocean. This phenomenon provides a rich variety of sights and sounds. For instance, the simultaneous pound of the surf and the magnificent roar of the howler monkeys in the primary forest along the ridgelines. Toucans will be calling to each other in the trees surrounding your balcony, as you enjoy a fiery sunset over the Pacific. On a sunny morning you might horseback ride or hike to a rainforest waterfall and take a swim. And on that same evening you may witness incredibly loud, rumbling thunder and a spectacular lightning show in the clouds over the ocean. There is the very real possibility of seeing a large iguana sunning himself on a rock, a sloth high up in a tree and a squawking flock of parrots – all in the same day.
The vegetation is truly tropical with orchids and philodendrons growing wild in the trees. Many varieties of Heliconia with their exotic flowers of red, orange and yellow attract scores of hummingbirds with long curved beaks and feathers of blue, green and purple. Pineapples, bananas and coco grow wild, as do many trees with tropical fruits unfamiliar to those of us from the U. S. And Canada. |
